Basingstoke and North Hants crush Totton and Eling II, while Hook and Hartley Wintney suffer mixed fortunes
BASINGSTOKE and North Hants' march to the Southern League Division Two title continued with a 243-run thrashing of hosts Totton and Eling II on Saturday.
Chris Froud was the Basingstoke star, making 142 and putting together partnerships of 134 and 80 with Andy Fulton (50) and Dan Coombs (47) as the Bountymen made 347-6 from their 50 overs.
In reply, Totton and Eling II were bowled out for just 104, with spinner Dave Pistorius taking 4-35.
Hartley Wintney's battle to escape relegation from Division One was handed a boost as they beat visiting Liphook and Ripsley by four wickets.
Roy Cockram and Chris Jolley each took three wickets as the visitors were bowled out for 144, while Cockram top-scored with 42 as the hosts reached their target for a four-wicket win.
Hook and Newnham Basics did not fare so well in the same division, losing by five wickets to visiting Hambledon.
Matt Love (64) and Ben Thane (47) got Hook to 122-1 but they could only muster 216-9 and Hambledon got home for the loss of five wickets.
Basingstoke and North Hants II also lost, going down by four wickets at home to Bashley (Rydal) II.
Sam Trinder top-scored with 64 as the hosts made 207, while Keith Harris took four wickets in Bashley's successful reply.
