Eight Saints in internationals
7:20am Friday 9th August 2013 in Sport
Luke Shaw has been named in the England under-21 squad to face Scotland at Bramall Lane next week.
The 18-year-old Saints left back is hoping to shake off the injury jinx that has prevented him featuring for the under-21s so far and bag his first cap for them on Tuesday night.
It is the fourth time Shaw, left, has been selected for the squad.
But each time previously he has had to pull out with a knock, the most recent preventing him joining Nathaniel Clyne at the European Championships in the summer.
The game has added incentive for the squad as the team is being managed by England senior boss Roy Hodgson.
Right-back Clyne will miss the match, though, as he continues to battle an ankle injury.
However, Saints still have EIGHT players going away for international duty just a few days before the start of the new season.
Striker Emmanuel Mayuka will be with the Zambian squad in France, Croatia defender Dejan Lovren is in Liechtenstein, keeper Artur Boruc in Poland, and midfielder Steven Davis captains Northern Ireland.
With the exception of Shaw, all the other Saints players’ games are taking place next Wednesday – three days before the first Premier League game!
