THIS week will see a programme of Bluebird Care Guy Jewell Cup and Plate action at May’s Bounty.

Tomorrow, Hook will face Yateley in the first of the cup semi-finals, having reached the last four with a nine-wicket win over Eversley in Wednesday’s quarter-final.

Eversley’s Zimbabwean star Cephas Zhuwao hit 69, which included five sixes, in their total of 115-9, but an unbeaten 52 from Thane and Ross Hunter (38) made sure Hook reached a winning score of 117-1.

Heavy rain last Monday meant that the quarter-final tie between Basingstoke Hockey Club and Hartley Wintney never started and that match will now be played on Tuesday night.

The winners of this game will face holders Basingstoke Development XI in the second semi-final on Friday evening.

Basingstoke made the last four with a 65-run victory over Rotherfield Park as Alex Yates top scored with 39 not out in their 201-6. Rotherfield were then bowled out for 136 as Lee Partner (36) did his best for the losers.

In the middle of the week at May’s Bounty the focus is on the Plate competition, with the two semi-finals.

On Wednesday night Ropley and Whitchurch lock horns and the following night Stratfield Turgis face either Sherfield or Rotherwick ITW, who play tomorrow.
