Good day for Kennet Ospreys anglers
6:00am Sunday 11th August 2013 in Sport
KENNET Ospreys went to Greenridge Farm on Sunday last, and to say it fished well would be an understatement – 27 anglers participated and weighed a staggering 2,530lb of fish, an average of 94lb per angler.
Top rod was Mark Blake, whose 280lb 6oz of carp fell to paste fished close in. Consistent Simon Kiefer pulled 188lb 8oz of carp on meat fished down the track. Ageing piscator Pat Hollies looked thoroughly shattered after hauling 180lb 8oz out on paste to finish third. Ray Shepherd’s 158lb 4oz came next, followed by his dad (The Moaner) Steve with 155lb 8oz.
And so it went on. Lake three fished the best with every angler topping the ton, and they call angling “the gentle art”, more like a fishing race.
Staceys match group took themselves to Southfield Park in Bracknell for their latest match, and it was Staceys supremo Keith Brown, who can do no wrong at present, who won again with 77lb of carp on maggot to leave the field trailing in his wake.
Doug Whitford caught three carp on corn for his even 14lb, while Steve Davis bagged one carp and bits for 11lb 10oz. “Hooverman” Andy Wicks made up the frame with 10lb 14oz.
Spare a thought for Tadley Angling’s Kevin Roberts, who thought he had caught a large crusty pie, only to find out it was a terrapin, and it bit back.
10 fished and caught.
The Basingstoke Championships are to be fished at Gold Valley on Sunday, September 22. All local clubs and individual anglers are eligible to fish. Contact André Grandjean on 01256 412680.
Camrose AC were at Soke Road Lake last Sunday, where Tony Holdsworth took the win with 39lb 10oz of carp on paste and pole. Danny Williams’ carp and tench bag caught on pole and meat made second spot and weighed 28lb14oz. Pip Seeny caught carp and tench on meat for an even 20lb, while Paul Hunt’s 18lb 8oz of mixed fell to pole and pellet.
Nine fished and caught.
Adventure AS’ match at Gold Valley saw Martin Wickens win with 150lb of carp on the pellet waggler. Martin Blackmon pellet wagged it for his 99lb 8oz. Alan Chadbone put 94lb 8oz in the net, again on the pellet waggler, while match secretary Nick Sargent came fourth with 93lb 8oz on the bomb and pellet waggler.
27 fished but some struggled.
Kennet Ospreys/Camrose AC’s match at Marsh Farm saw Simon Kiefer fish chopped worm and caster to net 53lb 7oz of skimmers. Graham Shadwell put the method feeder to good use netting 35lb 14oz of tench.
Steve Hunt used chopped worm and caster for his 23lb 14oz, as did match secretary André Grandjean for his 22lb 12oz of mixed and Steve Shepherd with his 21lb 12oz of mixed.
30 fished and caught.
It’s an expensive time in the garden – with paint for the fence, weed killer for the drive, a new strimmer, belt for the mower, and ’er indoors keeps stopping work when it rains. I suppose I had better fork out for some waterproofs.
Catch me next week.
