Young tennis stars shine in tournaments

TOTALLY Tennis performance players have been in action across the age groups in the events in Hampshire.
At the Winchester Babolat Open 2013 held at the Winchester Racquets and Fitness Club, Mini Performance player Kirsty Da Silva played in the eight and under girls singles.
Da Silva finished runner-up in Group B after winning two matches, beating Rosie Speed 12-10 and Marelle Raath 10-8 but losing to group winner Hannah Buzzard 10-6.
In the semi-finals Da Silva lost to Alisa Mironova 14-12.
In the third and fourth play-off match, Da Silva was up against Buzzard again and this time Da Silva won 10-7 to finish third overall.
Fellow Mini Performance players Tillie Reid and Jasmin Bromilow competed in the nine and under girls singles.
In the group stages, Reid beat Harriet Bradley 8-6, 7-3 but lost to group winner B winner Isabelle Purser 7-4, 11-9.
Bromilow was less fortunate, losing in her group to Natalie Bell 7-4, 7-5 and Amelia Perrin-Tilt 8-6, 7-0.
Performance player Miles Bromilow finished runner-up in the consolation event in the 14 and under boys singles after losing his first match in the main draw against Oliver Palmer 6-0, 6-4.
Competing in the consolation event, Bromilow defeated Oliver Harris 7-5, 6-1 followed by Matthis Ross in the quarter-final 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (8).
He then beat Benjamin Horner 6-0, 6-2 in the semis before losing in the final to Benjamin Smith in three sets 6-1, 0-6, 1-0(5).
In the 18 and under boys singles, performance players Liam Bisson and Loic Armstrong were competing in the main draw.
Armstrong defeated Bekim Redzepi in his first match 6-2, 6-4 but was knocked out in his second by Alistair Hobson 6-3, 6-2.
Bisson lost his first round match in three sets against Dominic Pearson going down 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (7).
Mini Performance player Aaron Dawson competed in the Bournemouth Open held at the West Hants club in Bournemouth.
Dawson competed in a box of four, beating Alexander Moyse 7-3, 10-8, James Reid 7-2, 7-5 and Owen Blakeley 7-3, 7-5.
He progressed to the main draw quarter-finals but lost to out Sebastian Palmer 8-6, 7-3.
Dawson’s coach, James McIntosh, who accompanied him to the event, said: “Aaron played very well and managed to win his box without dropping a single set. He has three wins towards his rating, which is a good start to the summer tournament season.”
