World silver for Lasham glider Ayala Truelove
LASHAM pilot Ayala Truelove won a silver in the Club Class at the Women’s World Gliding Championship at Issoudun in central France.
The result means that Truelove has won back-to-back silver medals, having finished second in the last championship two years ago in Sweden.
Ayala finished the fortnight-long competition in equal second place along with German pilot Doerte Starsinski and just 14 points behind the gold medallist, another German, Christine Grote.
The Club Class was one of the most closely fought championship classes ever, with the lead changing on an almost daily basis.
British team mates Claudia Hill and Helen Hingley finished seventh and 10th respectively.
In the Standard Class, Kay Draper – also from the Lasham club – and Gill Spreckley were seventh and eighth overall which meant that TeamGB was able to see off the competition from Poland to take second place in the overall team placings, behind Germany.
