Big day for Basingstoke golfers Eddie Hamilton and Tara O'Herlihy
YOUNG Basingstoke golfer Eddie Hamilton is celebrating after winning the Ian Poulter Invitational at Woburn Golf Club.
A total of 96 junior golfers, including Basingstoke Golf Club members Hamilton and Tara O’Herlihy, took part in the event. Hamilton carded a round of 80 (+8) off a handicap of 11 for a nett score of 69 (-3) to win the handicap prize.
Sadly, O’Herlihy, who lives in Cliddesden, could not match her clubmate’s achievements but both had a fantastic day playing the famous Marquess’ Course and meeting top golfer Poulter.
Not to be outdone, O’Herlihy’s father, Oscar, claimed victory in Basingstoke Golf Club’s Mayor’s Cup. His round of 67 (-3) is a record for the course, which was recently lengthened to 6,307 yards, while his nett score of 64 (-6) was enough to win the cup.
He also partnered Len Bullock as they won the Hampshire County Senior Foresomes Championship at Army Golf Club.
The duo scored 34 points for the first 18 holes and then 20 for the last nine to win, with O’Herlihy holing out with a nine iron for an eagle on one of the holes.
