Graham Liggat wins open event at Hartley Wintney GC
EARLY starter Graham Liggat won Hartley Wintney Golf Club’s July Open Stableford after amassing an impressive 44 points.
Liggat was one of the first players out over the course of two days’ competition, but his score stood up well, with runner-up Keith Frost coming in with 40 points, beating Peter Everest on countback.
The July Midweek Medal was won by Peter Curtis, who carded a nett round of 68 (-3) to beat Dennis Smith on countback. Smith was very unfortunate not to win, a card-wrecking seven on the last stealing victory from him, while Lee Poulter was just one shot back in third.
Weybrook Park’s men’s team have endured mixed fortunes in recent weeks. They won a home and away match against Dummer, but lost at Alresford and Henley.
The match against Dummer was halved after the morning games played at Dummer, but Weybrook Park made the most of home advantage to win the afternoon games 5-1.
Barry Coomber and Steve Christie were the only Weybrook players to get on the scoreboard at Alresford, securing a half and the visitors lost 4.5-0.5.
Scott Coomber and Billy Watson won their match in the Scratch League trip to Henley but Weybrook lost the tie 6-2 overall.
A team from Hamptworth Golf Club claimed victory in the first edition of Sandford Springs’ invitational event, the Bowmaker.
The team of John Jacobs, Terry Bruce and Denis Garret amassed 78 points around the clubs Woods and Lakes loops of nine holes to win by one, beating Juan Fontenla, Doug Woods and Richard Walker from Donnington Valley by a single point.
