ODIHAM and Greywell enjoyed their first Hampshire League outing after switching from the Thames Valley League over the winter, beating visiting Herriard by a massive 147 runs in Regional Division Two North.

Robert Walsh-Smith made 63 and Paul Voisey 54 as the hosts reached 224-5, while Herriard were bowled out for just 77 in reply, with a 10 point administration penalty setting them back even more.

Old Basing II have also had 10 points deducted but they started with a win, beating Thruxton by 82 runs. John Huntingdon made 73 and Keith Timms 61 as visiting Basing ended on 211-5, while Sameer took 4-45 as the hosts were bowled out for 129 in reply.

Hartley Wintney III lost by 16 runs at Medstead, being bowled out for 102 after the hosts had reached 118-6, while Burghclere’s trip to Andover IV was rained off.

Oakley and Sherfield on Loddon got off to winning starts in Division One.

Scott Bright made 52 as Oakley ended their innings on 101-5, with visiting Petersfield II being bowled out for 91, Jack Green taking 3-4 and Julian Worthington 3-27. Sherfield reduced Four Marks to 156-5, a total they chased down with ease to win by eight wickets.

Ashford Hill did not fare so well, losing by 142 runs at St Mary Bourne. The hosts made 241-5 and Ashford Hill were then skittled for just 99 in reply.

Elsewhere, Basingstoke and North Hants IV’s trip to Old Alresford and Rotherwick ITW’s game at Over Wallop were rained off, while Kingsclere forfeited their home game against St Cross Symondians V, a move that cost them 30 points.

There was a local derby in Division Three North East as AWE Tadley II hosted Silchester in a low-scoring affair. Tadley were bowled out for 77, a total that the visitors chased down for a five-wicket win.

Overton III beat Hook and Newnham Basics IV by four wickets. Josh Bland made 56 for visiting Hook as they made 159-9, but Overton got home for the loss of six wickets.

Basingstoke and North Hants V won a rain-affected game at Knights Valley by 26 runs. Basingstoke were bowled out for 171, Jay Ahuji making 50, and while the target was reduced to 153, Knights Valley could only muster 127.

Ramsdell II beat hosts Aldershot V by 66 runs. Batting first, Nigel Quelch made 51 as the visitors reached 195-8, while Aldershot were reduced to 129-9, though Ramsdell did receive a 10 point administration penalty.

Odiham and Greywell II’s trip to Tichborne Park III was rained off.

Ashford Hill II enjoyed a comprehensive victory over Easton and Martyr Worthy III in their opening Division Four North East game of the season.

Matt Vickery’s haul of 5-10 helped Ashford Hill bowl their visitors out for 125, while Andy Wisden’s unbeaten 54 saw the hosts home for an eight-wicket win.

Elsewhere, it was not such good news for Herriard’s second or third teams.

Mike Jeffrey took 6-50 as the seconds dismissed Colden Common II for 140 – but Herriard were then skittled out for just 53. The thirds fared even worse, being bowled out for 51 chasing Holybourne II’s total of 160.

Oakley II’s trip to Easebourne, Old Basing III’s home game against Petersfield III and Odiham and Greywell III’s trip to St Cross Symondians VI all fell victim to the weather.

Whitchurch II lost by two wickets at home to IBM Hursley in Division Four North West after being restricted to 148-8. They also lost 10 points to an administration penalty.
