Basingstoke Town manager Jason Bristow's weekly column

Basingstoke Town manager Jason Bristow. Basingstoke Town manager Jason Bristow.

LAST weekend was another frustrating one, due to another postponed match. The weather has played a major part in this season’s fixtures and with the rain looking set to continue we can only hope that this Saturday’s game will be on.

The players and I were very disappointed that the Weston game was called off as we have a bit of momentum at the moment and were looking forward to it.

With eight games left to play the aim is to finish the season strongly – but it is always at this stage when you start looking at the table and previous result and wondering what if?

What if we held on for another 20 seconds at Welling? What if we held on for another few minutes at Sutton and Hayes? What if that penalty in injury-time against Welling at home had hit the inside of the post instead of the outside?

Without looking any further that would have been an extra five points and in a very tight league it would mean we would be in contention again for the play-offs.

It has been a frustrating season in terms of some performances, some results, injuries, suspensions and postponements.

With Jay Gasson and Ross Adams out injured we still have key players missing, but as a squad are determined to repay the faith and the support that you fans have shown throughout and finish the season well.

We are approaching the second batch of academy trials for next season’s intake. There are still spaces available but please be warned that the interest has been very high.

We are looking forward to seeing the players who are attending and finalising the squads for next season.

Regards,

Jason
