Hat-trick heaven for 'Stoke's Junior
8:00am Wednesday 20th March 2013 in Sport
JUNIOR Korobaui claimed a hat-trick as the Basingstoke second string romped to a 32-0 victory at Newbury.
The big centre scored three times, with Dom Junior and flanker Dave Greenaway also crossing the line. Ryan Travaskis added one penalty and two conversions.
The third team lost 38-10 at home to Trojans III, Dan Lewis and Mikey Jacobs getting their tries, while the fourth team went down 66-12 away at table-topping Winchester III, John Connor and Keiron James scoring.
The Academy took on Alton for the second week in a row, winning 23-10 away from home.
Flanker George Hemmings scored after two minutes, while a Kofi Butcher penalty and centre Cameron Ralph’s try put the visitors 13-10 up at the break.
More Basingstoke tries followed in the second-half, No 8 Adam McDonald scoring twice.
The under-16 B team were also in action, winning 17-5 at Tadley to reach the final of the Hampshire Shield.
The match was scoreless at half-time but scrum-half Will Buckingham gave Basingstoke the lead soon after the break. That looked set to be the winning score but Tadley levelled with three minutes to go, sending the game to extra-time.
’Stoke were simply too strong in the extra 20 minutes. They went ahead when prop Aaron Hood crashed over, Max Watkins converting, and added late try late on to cement their final spot.
