Another good display from Lucy Wildash in national cross country event

BASINGSTOKE and Mid Hants youngster Lucy Wildash continued her fine form in cross country events by finishing 11th in the under-15 girl’s race at the UK Inter-Counties Championships.

Several members of the Down Grange club travelled to Cofton Park, Birmingham for the event – but Wildash was the top performer.

She made a fast start and held her form to finish just outside the top 10, helping Hampshire to third place in the team event.

Basingstoke had three runners in the under-17 men’s race, with Brendan O’Connor the second Hampshire runner home, finishing 39th. Ollie Butler was 52nd and Richard Fernando 179th.

Gemma Wildash was the second Hampshire runner to finish the under-17 women’s race, coming 83rd, with Charlotte Chalwin 124th and Freya Davis 177th. Gemma Bigg was 126th in the under-20 women’s event.

At the fourth match of the Border Cross Country League, held at Lightwater, Basingstoke, athletes picked up a number of top 10 finishes.

William Parkinson was second in the under-nine boys’ race with the team joint second, while Cameron Coveney was seventh and Ben Pattison eighth in the under-11 event, helping the team finish third. Lewis Avenell was ninth in the under-15 race, with the Basingstoke team fourth.

On the girls’ side Olivia Rugman was the highest-finishing Basingstoke runner in the under-nine race, coming home ninth to help the team to third.

Catherine Edwards was fourth in the under-11 event, helping the team to third, while Rebecca Bullock was second and Madeline Deadman 10th in the under-13 race, with the team second. Lakiesha Maxey was ninth in the under-15 event.
