WHAT a good feeling to get back to winning ways last weekend. Four points are, of course, important at this stage of the season – but what was most pleasing was that was the best we’ve competed all season.

Not just at home in front of a sell-out crowd, but away the following evening as well. And we’re still missing important players through injury.

We’ve been playing well in spurts lately – the third period against Slough the previous week, for example.

This time we sustained our performance over six periods of hockey, lapsing only for an eight-minute period in Swindon. They’re a team that will seize on the smallest error and make you pay.

Saturday evening’s win against Guildford was special. They wanted to secure the league title and brought a large number of fans with them.

The atmosphere in the rink was electric from the moment the puck was dropped. As players, we get breaks between shifts but hats off to both sets of fans for sustaining their effort without breaks!

My ears are still ringing from the noise in the rink as we played out a five on three penalty kill against the highest scoring team in the league.

Even when we lost Greg Chambers to a game penalty, the team didn’t falter. Young Matt Selby dropped back to partner Zach Sullivan in defence and they rose to the challenge.

What Zach lacks in physical bulk, he makes up for with one of the smartest hockey brains in the league.

Cameron Wynn chose to celebrate his 18th birthday with a day out in Swindon, while Stuart Mogg’s shifts give team members recovery time. These young players are vital to the development of the club.

And, of course, we were delighted to welcome Andy Melachrino back after a long injury lay-off. See you Saturday.

Doug.
