Town ladies rue defensive error

A MUCH-CHANGED Basingstoke Town Ladies side went down to a 3-0 defeat at home to Maidenhead United last Sunday.

Town switched to a back three and left three regulars on the bench ahead of the North Hampshire Cup final but made a decent start, Lianne Hill, Ayala Liran and Lindsey Beverley going close.

Maidenhead then got a foothold, forcing Town goalkeeper Erin Davis into a couple of very good saves, before Sam Mosley, Michelle Shone and Beverley all had efforts for the hosts.

However, it was Maidenhead who broke the deadlock just before the break, taking advantage of some bad defending. More poor play at the back led to the visitors doubling their lead early in the second-half and while Mosley and Beverley then went close for Town, Maidenhead wrapped the game up with their third.

The result leaves Basingstoke fourth in the Southern League Premier table and they face a tough test tomorrow, when they are due to travel to title-chasing Shanklin.
