Popley promotion bid remains on track
8:00am Wednesday 6th March 2013 in Sport By Peter Raynbird
MFC Popley maintained their strong bid for promotion from Basingstoke and District League Division One with a 1-0 win over Tadley Calleva, despite being down to a bare 11.
The decider did not come until the 87th minute when Ian Davies picked up the ball in his own half, took on two men and played through for Steve Austen to score.
In the first-half, Andy Grice in the Popley goal saved a Tyrone Aldridge penalty after Charlie Hart had brought down Steve Aldridge.
Elsewhere in Division One, Sherfield beat Welly Reserves 2-1, Herriard Sports and FC Burghclere drew 2-2 and Baughurst won 5-0 at Bounty United.
