THE Basingstoke and District Winter Tennis League has a lot of catching up to do before the end of April after several matches fell foul of the recent cold snap.
Beechdown A lead Mixed Division One with Old Basing A in close pursuit. The Beechdown team won their latest two matches 6-2, against Aldermaston A and Totally Tennis A. Simon and Tina Wood won all their sets in the Aldermaston match.
Meanwhile, Old Basing won 7-1 against Totally Tennis A and Aldermaston A and 8-0 against Overton A thanks to their team of Lisa Allen/Phil Dixon and Penny Luke/Andrew Mountford. RSF A beat Totally Tennis A 6-2.
Division Two leaders Overton B had mixed fortunes in their latest two matches. Having won 7-1 against Oakley B, with Karen Ollive and Eric McCann getting a maximum, they slipped up 6-2 against Preston Candover A, who had Charlie Carter and Catherine Payne to thank as they won all their sets.
Emily and Dan Palmer and Ros Hursell/Nick Baldwin gave Goodworth Clatford an 8-0 win against Oakley B, while Emma Giddings and Hoss Ashraf won all their sets for Beechdown B in their 5-3 win at Preston Candover B to maintain their unbeaten record.
The Odiham A team of Jill Vaughan/Roger Barnacle and Madeline Lawson/Jeremy Hillage have taken complete command of Division Three after 8-0 wins against Oakley C and Sherborne.
The RSF B team of Steve Brown/Tracey Telford and Kevin Still/Amanda Brundrett gave them an 8-0 win over Oakley C.
Hook A recorded their first points of the season with 6-2 wins against their B team and Sherborne. Andy Small and Lauren Walker were unbeaten in the B team game and Anthony Myland and Ailsa Fraser did likewise in the Sherborne match.
There are three teams battling it out in Division Four, with Beechdown D currently in the lead after a 7-1 win at second-placed Odiham B, but they then surprisingly went down 5-3 at Aldermaston B.
After losing to the leaders, the Odiham B team came back strongly with wins against Beechdown C 6-2 and their C team 8-0 thanks to their team of Alan Turner/Leahney Golesworthy and Steven Thorning/Veronica Pulleyn.
Totally Tennis B kept up the pressure on the top two after an 8-0 win against Mortimer B, thanks to maximums from Tim Rise/Meryl Patterson and Rex Groves/Hilary Oliver.
Old Basing B secured their first points of the season with wins over Mortimer B 5-3 and Odiham C 8-0 with a team made up of Mark Fuller/Gemma Goldeman and Clive Barham/Pauline Baker. They did, however, slip up 5-3 at home against Beechdown C, with Phil Banfield and Aly Coughlan winning all their sets for the away team.
RSF A and Andover A continue to battle it out at the top of Men’s Division One. Kingsclere A have closed the gap on the leaders after a 6-2 win against Aldermaston A.
Division Two looks like being a close run division, with Goodworth Clatford moving to top spot after two 5-3 successes against Kintbury and Andover B, Chris Pugh and Nick Baldwin winning all their sets in the Andover match.
Old Basing B lead Division Three after a draw with Odiham A thanks to a maximum from Andrew Mountford and Mark Hammond.
In Division Four, M Moore and D Trafford were unbeaten for leaders Beechdown B in their 7-1 win at Oakley C.
Division Five leaders Odiham B were held to a draw at Aldermaston B, with John McLarty and Colin Bennett winning all their sets for the home team.
In Ladies Division One, Beechdown A moved to the top after a 7-1 win against Goodworth Clatford thanks to a maximum from Tina Wood and Clare Munns.
There is no change to the positions in Division Two, with RSF A still comfortably in the lead. Aimee Dowek and Lindsey Beevers won all their sets for Preston Candover B in their Division Three draw with Sherborne. Beechdown B won 5-3 at Whitchurch.
