Totally Tennis youngsters impress at tournaments

TOTALLY Tennis performance player Ali Olrog won the 18-and-under Boys Singles title at the Bradfield College OnHotels Junior Spring Open 2013 held at Bradfield Tennis Club.
Olrog beat Iqmai Hassan 6-0, 6-0 in the quarter-finals, Jonathan Lamport 6-3, 6-1 in the semi-finals and Tristan Gunbie 7-6(4), 6-1 in the final to win the event.
In the nine-and-under mixed singles, mini performance player Daniel Prickett finished third. He won Group A, beating Gregor Webster 7-4, 7-6 and Max Branet 7-4, 7-3 to progress through to the main draw.
In the quarter-finals, he defeated Christian Yeates 7-0, 7-5 but he lost in the semi-finals after a close three-set match to tournament runner-up Freddie Plummer 4-7, 7-6, 7-4. In the third/fourth place playoff, Prickett beat Webster 7-6, 7-1.
Miles Bromilow and Liam Hignett both competed in the 14-and-under boys’ singles event. Bromilow beat Harry Stephens in his first match 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 but lost in the quarter-finals to Ethan Chow 6-3, 6-1.
Hignett also won his first match against Milo Elliott 6-4, 6-0 but lost to eventual runner-up Tobias Ryan in a three-set battle 6-1, 5-7, 13-11.
Mini performance player Eliza Wheeler was third in the nine-and-under girls’ singles at the John Eadie Salisbury Junior Open held at Salisbury Lawn Tennis Club.
Wheeler won Group B, beating Elysia Beynon 7-4, 7-0, Anraj Mahil 7-4, 7-3, Mollie Edge 7-5, 7-5, Megan Rundle 7-4, 7-4 and Kimi Khehra 7-4, 4-7, 7-5. In the semi-finals, tournament winner Rina Hayamizu beat Wheeler 7-5, 2-7, 7-3 and Wheeler beat Rundle 7-5, 7-3 for third place.
In the Grade 3 Junior Open at Harlow Tennis Club, Wheeler competed in the nine-and-under girls’ singles. She won Group A, beating Catherine Hodge 8-6, 7-1, Anraj Mahil 7-3, 8-6 and Kimi Khehra 7-4, 7-2 but lost to Charlotte Laing in the main draw quarter-finals 7-4, 7-1.
In the consolation event, Wheeler beat Chika Ike in the semi-final 7-3, 5-7, 7-5 but lost out in the final to Elita Sillins 11-9, 7-4.
Bromilow played in the 14-and-under boys’ singles event at the David Lloyd club in Heston, beating Edward Tandy in the quarter-finals 4-1, 4-0 and then Hussam-Dean Sikafi 4-2, 4-2 in the semis. He lost in the final to Mark Konieczny 4-0, 3-0.
In the second David Lloyd Heston event, Bromilow beat Daniel Ross-Smith 4-0, 4-1 in the quarter-finals, Cameron Pollimore in the semi-finals 4-2, 4-1 and defeated Gakuto Fuse in the final 5-4(4), 4-1.
Head coach Danny Fowkes said: “Our performance players had some great results in tournaments in the half-term break. Congratulations to Ali and Liam, who recorded great wins.”
