THERE was another strong performance from Queens F as they beat Portals 9-1 to keep pressure on rivals Aldworth B for the Basingstoke and District Table Tennis League Division Two title.

Young Michael Jones added an eighth treble to his tally for the season and once again did not drop a single game. Also taking a treble was Kam Pang, who had no trouble until his final match of the evening, being taken to five games by Gary Walters.

Portals’ sole point came from Peter Blunden beating Bill Stamatiou in four sets. Peter Coppins noted it was “a good win for Queens F, and a good win for Peter over Bill.”

Following last week’s run-out in the handicap competition, Terry White appears to be scheduled for more regular games for Alpha – he has now played three of Alpha’s last four matches.

White showed no signs of rustiness against Ron Powell in Alpha’s 9-1 win over Minitec B. The only point scored by the opposition side was through Ian Short and his 12-10 win in the fifth game against Paul Rattue.

A two-man Winklebury team were dominant in their 7-3 win over Queens C (Z) but the fixture was not without its bumps and surprises. Ryan Ng took the first game against Peter Bradley and appeared to be taking the match into a fifth game decider before losing five consecutive points to lose the game 12-10.

Winklebury’s penholder Colin Wilkes also bravely managed to secure a narrow 3-2 victory over Callum Coombs. Notably, in the fourth game, Coombs stormed to an 8-0 lead with a miraculous barrage of winners and eventually took the game 11-2.

Minitec A’s trio of Steve Murgatroyd, Gary Livingstone and Andrew Parker romped to an impressive 9-1 win over Division One strugglers KG B.

There was an intriguing result in Livingstone’s win over John Ahlan, considering the fact that Ahlan had never lost to Livingstone before. The clash was also a busy night for KG’s Tony Amies, who played 14 out a possible 15 games – one 3-2 loss, one 3-2 win and a 3-1 loss.

The penultimate meeting of the night saw Parker face off against fierce rival Dave Kimberley – who was hoping to improve on his narrow 3-2 loss in the reverse fixture. However, there was no such luck as Parker saw off Kimberley in three games.

Even in his Queens B side’s 8-2 win over Aldworth A, Peter Martin was prudent in victory and praised Jared Binner’s two four-game wins over Bob Walker and Paritosh Singh.

The fixture also saw a Division One debut for Amy Blagbrough, playing up from Division Two’s Aldworth B, who failed to score a point for her side.

In Division Three, Oakley B had a 10-0 win over AWE B. Ian Warner, Terri Allison and Ron Draper took advantage of AWE talisman John McLarty being absent to take maximums.

The away side rarely looked like having a win in them, with Ken Wyld and Terri Allison being the only game that went the distance on the night.

Queens I lost a close encounter against Aldworth E 4-6. Barry Jones (Aldworth E) was the player of the night and the difference between the two sides, only dropping the single game en route to his treble.

However, Aldworth were not to have it all their own way with Blanka Bimi and George Hellens sharing their side’s four points between them. The match of the night was contested by Bimi and Jack Farragher, with Bimi securing a good win, 11-7 in the fifth.
