Lucy Wildash continues to impress on cross country scene

Lucy Wildash. Lucy Wildash.

BASINGSTOKE and Mid Hants distance runner Lucy Wildash continued her good form in cross country events with a sixth-place finish in the under-15 girls' race at the South of England Championships.

Wildash, who recently won the Hampshire Cross Country League title, was one of several Basingstoke runners who travelled to Parliament Hill, in north London for the championships.

Despite being rearranged due to adverse weather, the course was still very boggy, with runners having to contend with ankle-deep mud in places.

Wildash coped well with the conditions to beat all but five of the 187 runners in the under-15 event. It was a good performance from the Basingstoke athlete, who still has another year in the age-group.

Ollie Butler claimed a top-20 finish in the under-17 boys' race, claiming 16th place, five runners ahead of club-mate Brendan O'Connor, with the team finishing sixth.

Gemma Wildash claimed 35th place in the under-17 girls' event, with Charlotte Chalwin coming home in 40th, while James Beeks was the top Basingstoke runner in the under-15 boys' race, coming home in 23rd place.
