ODIHAM professional boxer Matt Goddard is looking to keep the winning start to career going when he faces Billy Smith at the Fareham Leisure Centre on Saturday.

After three straight wins the 22-year-old is looking to keep his winning streak going as he eyes up a title fight later in the year.

His opponent, from Worcester, is 12 years his senior and will bring bags of experience into the ring. Smith was last in action earlier this month at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast. He was also on the same bill as Goddard at the Guildhall in Southampton, but the Odiham fighter admitted he knows little about his opponent.

He is used to fighting at welterweight, but his contest will be light welterweight and will be four rounds.

Goddard said: “I have seen a little bit of film of him and he is very experienced, but I am going into the ring for a win as I want to be in the mix for a title shot come the end of the year.”

The Odiham fighter will be backed by good support and said: “I have sold a lot of tickets and quite a few to new fans and I must thank everyone who is going down to support me.

“I have been training well, I am confident and can’t wait for Saturday it is going to be a good night.”

Anyone wishing to buy tickets for the evening can do so by contacting Goddard on 07803 837129.
