New members for bowls club
2:00pm Sunday 24th February 2013 in Sport
LODDON Vale held the second open day of the season last Saturday and managed to attract 31 new members, almost an unheard of result based on previous years.
It is still not too late to come along and join as there will be a lot of coaching taking place over the coming weeks.
There were no friendly matches over the weekend but the club hosted two representative matches last Sunday. Essex just beat Hampshire in the under-25’s game and Dorset beat Kent in the Ladies Atherley Trophy semi-final by 124-109.
Founder members John and Wendy Merchant are still being successful after their move to the west country.
Wendy has got through to the National Over-60’s pairs finals and John to the Over-60’s Rinks Finals with his Taunton Deane team.
On Monday, the club hosted a match against a Bedfordshire touring team and won comfortably 168-137. The winning rinks were skipped by Peter Grant (31-19), Steve Sallows (20-18), John Holmes (17-13), John Hilton (25-17), Ray Harris (21-17), Sheila Girle (31-20), while Terry Jones drew 14-14 and the only losing rink was Ian Laming (19-9).
