BASINGSTOKE men’s hockey team cruised into the next round of the Hampshire Cup thanks to a 6-3 victory over visiting Shepton Mallet last Sunday.
The visitors scored first, but the home side equalised as Alan Jacobs set up Grant Rouse. A lob over the Shepton goalkeeper by Clinton Douglass and a goal from Ryan O’Hearn made it 3-1 at the break.
More goals came in the second-half as O’Hearn finished neatly and, while the visitors scored twice to make it 4-3, an own-goal and Ben Shaughnessy volley completed the scoring.
In league action the previous day, the men drew 4-4 against visiting Bank of England.
The away side took the lead but two quick goals from O’Hearn put the home side ahead. After half-time Shaughnessy scored either side of a Bank of England goal to make it 4-2, before the visitors scored twice more to tie the game.
