Big win for Tadley Calleva
2:00pm Friday 15th February 2013 in Sport By Graham Merry
Lee Wood celebrates scoring for Tadley.
TADLEY Calleva enjoyed their biggest win of the |season with a 4-3 victory over Wessex League Division One high flyers Team Solent.
The visitors arrived at Barlow’s Park second in the table, but left having slipped to fourth.
A delighted Tadley boss Danny Dolan said: “We have waited a long time to beat a top four side and this was a great team performance.”
The afternoon proved to be a real roller-coaster ride and it was the home side who made the better start as good work from Danny Vickers led to Scott Kinge scoring from 12-yards.
The lead was doubled as Les Wood scored with a toe poke after a goal-mouth scramble.
The visitors hauled themselves back into the game thanks to a harsh looking penalty as Wood seemed to play the ball not the man, which made it 2-1 at half-time.
The University side equalised and then took the lead after some great one touch football to make it 3-2 with 20 minutes to go.
Last season the home side would have crumbled at this point, but their new never say die attitude came to the fore and Wood equalised after another goal mouth scramble with 10 minutes to play.
Tadley then made sure of the three points as Scott Kinge made a surging run into the box and was brought down, leaving Mario Nurse to score from the spot to complete the 4-3 victory.
On Tuesday night, Tadley put up a great show at Wessex League Premier Division leaders Alresford as they lost 2-0 in the North Hants Senior Cup semi-final.
The home side took the lead in after 33 minutes from a disputed penalty for a handball after the ball was blasted at a Tadley defender.
Alresford added a second just before the break, but the visitors can take a lot of positives from the game and James Tennant had a shot deflected over in the second-half.
Tadley manager Dolan said: “I am very proud of my players. It was a terrible decision for the penalty, but we really matched them and James Tennant at right-back and Henry Johnson at left-back were outstanding.”
Tadley return to league action on Saturday with a trip to Pewsey Vale, who sit one place above them in the league on goal difference.
