Buffalo look to close gap on league leaders
10:00am Saturday 9th February 2013 in Sport
Simon Beere, right, scored twice against Slough.
THE Basingstoke Buffalo will be looking to complete the double over National League South Two league leaders Peterborough Islanders when they visit tomorrow (face-off 6.30pm).
When the sides met in Cambridgeshire earlier in the season the Buffalo won 3-0 as netminder Craig Agass produced a great performance.
The goalie was in fine form again last Sunday as he picked up the man-of-the-match award as the Buffalo drew 6-6 in Slough.
The Jets scored the only goal of the first period from Liam Underdown and then Jamie Milton added a second at 22:18.
Former Slough player Stuart Mogg netted the visitors’ first from Daniel Lackey and Matt Lawday.
Slough import Zoran Kozic, who needlessly logged up 42 minutes of ice time during the game, while some of his squad failed to get any ice time at all, made it 3-1.
A blue line rocket from Simon Beere, assisted by Chris Beauclerk, reduced the lead to one, only for Nathan Darmanin and Brandon Miles to extend Slough’s lead to 5-2.
Back came the Buffalo as they converted two of their three powerplay opportunities in the game.
Simon Griffiths netted the first as he finished a nice move involving Michael Leary and Greg Martyn.
Then, just 42 seconds from the second buzzer, Beere scored from a Dave Collins pass.
The final session saw the Buffalo level the game as Lackey scored at 42:34.
Two minutes after, Slough re-took the lead, but the visitors, who had the better of the last session, got their deserved equaliser as Mogg netted from Sam Dollin.
