Peter Howes' angling column

KENNET Ospreys were at Dandys Lane Fishery last Sunday, and Graham – “I don’t know if I’ll go, depends how I feel on the morning” – Shadwell, won it with 59lb 15oz of carp on the pellet feeder with pellet and corn on the hook.

Steve Shepherd got a plum draw, yet again on the island, and finished second with 54lb 8oz of carp, mainly on the cage feeder and maggot.

Pete Newman did well from an average area to record 43lb 1oz of carp on pole and pellet, just edging out Steve Hunt, whose 42lb 15oz of carp fell to pole and pellet tactics.

20 fished a venue that proved to be consistent on the day, with no blanks.

Adventure AS went to Bowsaw Lake on Sunday last, and wait for it, Scott “Meatloaf” Nelson won the match with 42lb 8oz of carp on the feeder and popped bread.

Fred Gill took second spot with four carp for 27lb on the method feeder. Mo Saunders fished bread on the feeders for his 26lb 12oz of carp, while Dave Butler made up the frame with three carp for 15lb 12oz.

Match secretary Nick Sargent said: “It was a match of two halves. Half the lake fished okay, while the other half was dire."

In total, 21 fished and eight didn’t trouble the scalesman.

Staceys Angling supremo Keith Brown has put even more fish into Whitehouse, the two Barlows lakes and Soke Road Lake, namely a mix of 300 chub, bream and barbel in each venue. Let’s hope they encourage these already heavily stocked venues to turn on.

Camrose AC were at Old Barlows Lake last Sunday, where Brian Orchard’s one bite produced one carp of 4lb 13oz to win the match. He need only have taken one maggot working on this principle.

Match secretary Pip Seeny’s 4lb 9oz consisted of two carp and one bream caught on pole and maggot. Pete Morris caught carp and tench for his 3lb 14oz, again, pole and maggot, while Bill Atkinson’s 2lb 15oz made up the frame.

All nine that fished caught.

Oxoid AC went to Whitehouse Lake for their latest fixture and it was John Wiley who topped out with 17lb 11oz of pole and maggot-caught carp. Shelton Caswell’s 16lb 12oz of mixed was second, again, pole and pellet was employed. Pete Lovegrove’s 11lb made third spot, followed by Del Baulsom on 5lb 6oz.

Nine fished and two blanked.

Stacey Angling’s Keith Brown organised a match for his family and friends last week at Timsbury Manor. Paul Follington won it with 59lb of carp on corn. “Super Granddad Mick Brown” made second spot with 30lb of carp on maggot, while June Brown did it for the ladies with an even 28lb.

Nine fished and caught.

’Er indoors fell over and broke a bone in her foot last Sunday, while I was at Dandys Lane, so after five hours in A and E herself, she hobbled home on crutches, with a patch over one eye and a parrot on her shoulder. I’m sure I could find her work in a panto somewhere.

Catch me next week.
