HARRY Rudge scored a hat-trick as Overton United enjoyed a 4-2 win at Paulsgrove in the Hampshire Premier League.

It took the village side’s tally to 19 goals in their last four games as they continued their climb up the table into the top 10.

The first-half saw plenty of chances for both sides, with Sean O’Brien in the Overton goal making a number of good saves as his side took a 1-0 lead in at the break. Rudge was the scorer after good work from Alex Jupp and Jordan Grant.

The robust Pompey side levelled on 55 minutes, but Overton re-took the lead on the hour mark as Myles Englefield ran through and beat the home goalkeeper one-on-one.

It then became 3-1 as Rudge beat the offside trap after a pass from Andrew Charsley.

A Paulsgrove penalty kept the game on the boil, but Overton made sure of the victory as right-back Kieran Fuller ran the length of the field into the opposition’s box before finding Rudge to complete his hat-trick.

A delighted manager Titch Bloomfield said: “This was a brilliant win at Paulsgrove as we have a young side and it is such a tough place to go.

“They either kick you or say they are going to kick you, so it is a real intimidating environment to play in.”

This Saturday, Overton will hope to extend their current winning run to six games when they entertain second placed Clanfield (kick-off 2pm).

Looking ahead to the game Bloomfield said: “We have a great team spirit at the moment and we were unlucky to lose there 2-1 earlier in the season.”

AFC Aldermaston’s HPL game at Hamble Club last Saturday was postponed. Hopefully they will be back in action on Saturday, when they entertain Fleetlands (kick-off 3pm).
