THE Basingstoke Blizzards basketball team hammered the Windsor Warriors 99-53 in their last game before the festive break.

Good defensive work put the locals clear at 14-2 after six minutes, with Rob Gerrard on fire and scoring 12 points. By the end of the quarter it was 21-6.

As the second-quarter started Windsor showed a little fight to get back to 23-12. However, Aaron Taylorson, Rob Gerrard and Joey Haynes piled on the points as the half ended with the Blizzards leading 44-23.

In the second-half Basingstoke pressed on the gas, as Gavin Frecklington assisted in numerous fast breaks to see Basingstoke go 68-28 ahead.

Tom Mavronicholas and Adam Paddon joined in the scoring, with Rob Gerrard still on fire, to finish the third-quarter clear at 74-32.

The question was now would the Blizzards get 100 points on the boards for the second week running? Unfortunately, the buzzer came just too soon, Adam Paddon putting a three pointer up with 20 seconds remaining which was not enough as the clock lapsed without the home side getting the ball back, but they still won 99-53.

Their next game in the Wessex League is on Sunday, January 6, at leaders Yateley, which is a must-win game if they want to keep their promotion push alive.
