ODIHAM professional boxer Matt Goddard made it a hat-trick of wins with a superb performance on Friday night at the Guildhall, in Southampton.
The 22-year-old gave away 12 years of experience to his opponent, Marc Callaghan from Barking, who only three years ago was fighting for a British title.
However, roared on by what felt like the whole of Odiham, Goddard came out firing on all cylinders to maintain his 100 per cent professional record. It left his opponent with bright purple ribs and Callaghan only managed to lay a couple of punches during the first three minute round.
By the end of just the first round the Essex fighter slumped to his stool and shock his head and the contest, which was due to go four rounds, was over.
Goddard, whose two previous fights had been in London, said: “It was great to have so much support and I was expecting a much harder fight.
“The fight could not have gone any better, and I was really buzzing after.”
His proud father Richard Goddard was in the audience at Southampton and said: “It is the best I have seen him fight as a pro and it was against an opponent who has been in with some very good fighters.
“He came out from the first bell and just dominated in a controlled manner.”
Goddard will now have a small break before returning to training. His next fight will probably be in January or February next year.
