WELTERWEIGHT Darryl Still was left gutted and feeling he had been robbed of victory as he lost on points 39-38 to Dan Blackwell at the Guildhall, Southampton.

The 32-year-old professional boxer said: “Everyone in the corner and myself believed I had won the fight going into the last round. I just had to hit and not be hit so I was amazed when the decision went against me. It did not go down well in the hall.”

Still changed his opponent a few days before the contest, so that meant Joe Pigford fought Damien Dinwiddy and knocked him down in 37 seconds.

Dinwiddy was replaced by Blackwell from Trowbridge, brother of the Commonwealth challenger Nick Blackwell.

That left him conceding weight as his opponent was seven pounds heavier and the Basingstoke fighter started slowly, wary of his size and his jab.

After some stem words from corner man King Davidson, Still looked like his old self and he blooded the nose of Blackwell and also hurt him. In the final round the Basingstoke fighter used his feet well in what looked an even round.

Then, much to his horror, the decision went against him.

Still said: “Everyone was shocked with the result and it is another loss on my record, which I could do without.

“It was a real barnstormer of a fight and the bout of the night, but I just want to get back into the ring as soon as possible and get back to winning ways now.”
