A SQUAD of 12 boys from Basingstoke Gymnastic Club took part in the Southern Region Championships and saw their hard work rewarded with medals.

Star of the show was Henry Mantel, 16, who competed in the under-16 event, finishing in second position overall and taking home the gold medal on floor, pommel horse, rings and vault and silver on parallel bars and high bar.

In the under-10 competition, Oliver Buckley and Owen Hasting, both 8, were the youngest competitors and they showed great potential in finishing 30th and 29th overall respectively.

In the same event Harry Thomas, 9, was 27th, Josh Kershaw finished 17th, Sam Webster 14th and Peter Robinson, who finished eighth overall, took silver on horizontal bar with a score of 11.70.

The under-12 age group was represented by 11-year-old Iain Forster and Max O’Mara, who finished in joint 13th. Alex Stanley was ninth overall and took the silver medal on the floor exercise, while Issa Kalfon was sixth overall and regional champion on the floor, taking home gold.

In addition, James Panzeri, 13, competed in the under-14 competition finishing sixth overall and taking home the bronze medal on the floor with a score of 12.20.
