WHITCHURCH cruised to a 4-1 victory at Amesbury, taking the lead after just two minutes.

Paul Coventry opened the scoring, rounding the goalkeeper after he latched onto a through-ball from man-of-the-match midfielder Nicky Jupp.

A few minutes later the very square back four of the home side was unlocked again as Jordan Seward found Luke Walker and he also rounded the Amesbury goalie to score.

After that Coventry and Walker went close to adding to the tally, which was increased five minutes before half-time as Issac Sedu’s through-ball allowed Walker to net his second.

Whitchurch grabbed their fourth thanks to an individual strike from Sedu on 50 minutes.

After that Coventry volleyed wide and then sub Grant Powell squared for Walker but he was denied by a good save.

With the game won, Whitchurch eased up and the home side scored a late consolation goal.

Manager Jim Macey said: “It was a really good performance and it was nice to see us string two wins together. Nicky Jupp was outstanding at the centre of midfield.”

However, the victory came at a cost as Tom Pemberton suffered an ankle injury and Seaward also picked up a knock, so both are doubts for this Saturday’s home game against visiting Wessex League Division One leaders Cowes Sports, while Jupp will also miss the game due to suspension.

His place could be taken by new signing Joe Carr. The former Basingstoke Town Youth player, who was also with Farnborough Town, played the last 45 minutes at Amesbury.

Looking ahead to the game, Macey said: “They are flying at the moment so it is going to be a tough game, but we will give it our best shot.”
