Titanic survivor gets mayoral tribute

SOUTHAMPTON mayor John Slade said it with flowers when he visited Titanic survivor Millvina Dean.
Millvina, 95, broke her hip in a fall at her bungalow and has spent the past few months in a nursing home at Woodlands, near Ashurst.
She was unable to travel to Southampton on April 15 for a service marking the 95th anniversary of the Titanic disaster.
Councillor Slade decided to pay her a visit - and presented her with a huge bouquet of flowers.
Cllr Slade said: "She has worked hard for Southampton, promoting the city all over the world, and I didn't want her to be overlooked as we commemorate the 95th anniversary of the sinking.
"It was lovely meeting her - she's a really super lady."
Millvina, who lives in the Woodlands area, is one of only two Titanic survivors who are still alive.
She was just nine weeks old when the White Star liner struck an iceberg on April 14 1912 and sank a few hours later.
