OAKRIDGE Methodist Church celebrated 40 years of prayer and ministry over the weekend of October 11 and 12.

On the Saturday, an invitation was extended to many people for a celebration party, from 4pm to 6pm. Lots of the invited guests have had a connection of some sort with the church over the years.

The event was attended by the deputy mayor and mayoress Councillor Brian Gurden and his wife Eleanor.

During the afternoon, the guests were entertained by the young people of the church.

A number of people sent messages of congratulations and The Reverend Richard Tanner, a former minister, and his wife, The Rev Janet Tanner, entertained.

The deputy mayor said a few words and thanked everyone for his invitation. He, too, was delighted with the work of the church and hoped that it would long continue.

Those present were served with a delicious buffet tea.

A brochure, containing messages of congratulations from various people and the history of the church, was available to the guests.

AT ST MARY’S, Old Basing, on Saturday, November 1, there will be an All Souls Eucharist, at 10am, in memory of the faithful departed.

THE Warham Trust, which meets at the clubhouse in Malshanger, is an informal Church of England cafe-style congregation with groups for young people.

They meet every first Sunday of each month, at 4.30pm, with tea, and a service at 5pm, and on every third Sunday of the month there is a service at 12.30pm, followed by lunch at 1.30pm.
