News from the Pews Oct 9

ON SUNDAY, the 11am service at Church of Christ The King, in Brighton Hill, Basingstoke, will be an All Age worship.

The subject is bread and there will be activities for the children.

ON SUNDAY, October 19, the third Sunday loose collection at Bramley church will be in aid of the Church Army, who work in a similar way to The Salvation Army, and often work with underprivileged children, drop-outs, alcoholics and people in need.

This is a very worthwhile cause.

I MADE mention, a couple of weeks ago, about some events The Salvation Army is running. Here are some more details.

The gardening group will meet on Wednesdays, starting next week at 7.30pm, and then on the third Wednesday of each month.

The Puppet Company will meet on October 22, at 7.30pm, and thereafter on the last Wednesday of each month.

The company aims are to take part in family services, children’s weekends and open-air ministry.

If you are interested, contact Wessex Close, Kings Furlong, Basingstoke, or telephone Major Ron Smith on 01256 327149.

ST MARY The Virgin, Silchester, is presenting a concert of choral music at 7.30pm on Saturday.

The programme will include works by Holst, Grieg and Vaughan Williams and will be performed by Cantemus, of Newbury. The director is Ian Westley.

Tickets cost £8, to include refreshments, and can be obtained from Richard Rand on 0118 9700450, Valerie Hyde on 0118 9700349, or Eddie Culbert on 0118 9833451. They can also be purchased on the door.

I AM appealing for details of your Harvest services and also Remembrance Sunday arrangements.

I can be contacted by post to 16 Brocas Drive, Basingstoke, RG21 5LT, via e-mail to blairman@btinternet.com or by telephone on 01256 475380.
