The M3 continues to be closed in both directions following reports of potential hazardous material in the road.

Police were called at 3.49am to the scene, and closed off junctions 9 to 11 of the motorway.

The force is working with Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team to establish exactly what it is and get the material cleared.

Delays are now pushing towards five hours on the J9 southbound closure, and northbound and the A34 still stand at two hours.

Nobody has been hurt in the incident.

Hampshire Police are asking people to look out for updates on its social media channels.
