ORGANISERS hailed this year's Basingstoke Festival of Transport as its "biggest and best" as thousands of people indulged in a day of classic cars and sun,

With more than 100 stalls and a wealth of classic cars, families and friends took to the War Memorial Park on Sunday May 8 to enjoy the 26th edition of the free festival.

This year's BFT saw a range of classic, vintage and commercial vehicles, fire engines and tractors, whilst a live jazz band provided the soundtrack for the festivalgoers.

As well as the cars, local businesses and charities had stands selling ice-creams and refreshments amongst other interesting items and services.

BFT is organised by the Thornycroft Society, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and Basingstoke Classic Car Club.

Gary Bone, Chairman of the Thornycroft Society, said: "This is the most people we have ever come down to attend the festival - there were thousands of people enjoying the sun and an ice-cream.

"The weather was really kind to us and it really was a fun day out for families and friends, who got the chance to see some classic cars.

"This event is one of the only events in the south that you can have a free day-out and enjoy cars from as far back as 1914 - and this is why it continues to grow in popularity.

"I have been part of this festival since 1992 and without doubt this is the biggest and best festival we have ever put on."
