THE time in between Easter Sunday and the Ascension, which this year is May 14, is one that I find interesting. The Bible does not tell us much. What we have are a few verses in the Gospels and Acts including: To these (His disciples) He also presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of 40 days and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God. Acts 1:3 (NASB).

Whilst we have few details of the words Jesus spoke, we can see the results of His words, and the time they spent with Him, in the response of His disciples. In the years following Jesus’ return to heaven, this small group of men and women literally turned the world upside down.

Many were executed for refusing to deny that Jesus is the Son of God. The willingness of Jesus’ followers to die, rather than deny His resurrection and ascension, is frequently cited as compelling evidence of the truth of their account. Today, the time between Easter and the Ascension is an opportunity to hear “many convincing proofs” about Jesus.
