I DON’T usually shop in Asda, but last week I popped in to buy a few items that I had missed off my weekly shop.

I made my way to the checkout and paid for my shopping. As I reached out to collect the receipt, I was surprised as the shop assistant also handed me two little round tokens.

Feeling a little awkward, I took them, picked up my shopping and left. It was only when I chatted with friends later in the week, I found out I should have used the tokens to choose a charity for Asda to donate to – instead they are currently sat redundant in a drawer at home.

What has this incident taught me?

Firstly, if we don’t understand something, we should ask! This is especially important when it comes to understanding what God is saying to us through the Bible. We miss out on so much when we feel too embarrassed or too busy to ask.

Secondly, we need to acknowledge that the Word of God, just like the tokens, exists to be acted upon. We should allow the words to encourage, challenge, inspire and transform us and the world we live in.
