IN the past few weeks, I have been to see two very impressive productions.

Each of these has had an interpretation of an aspect of the Christian story at its core.

I enjoyed both shows immensely, but in each there was something missing – faith in the Resurrection of Jesus from the dead.

And this missing piece isn’t just an optional extra; it is the key element, the interpretative key, without which the Christian message does not and cannot make sense.

Resurrection is central to the life of Christians. Without it, we are the most foolish of people. With “it”, with Him, the Risen Christ, however, we can become living witnesses to God’s love as understood by Cardinal Suhard: “To be a witness does not consist in engaging in propaganda, nor even in stirring people up, but in being a living mystery. It means to live in such a way that one’s life would not make sense if God did not exist.”
