Planners aprove controversial farm expansion near Bishop's Waltham
WINCHESTER planners have approved a controversial plan for the expansion of a poultry farm at Shedfield, near Bishop’s Waltham.
Raglington Farm has been given the go-ahead for the new poultry shed and two feed silos at the farm on Botley Road.
The city council had received seven objections to the scheme which proposed increasing the number of broiler hens from 72,000 to 113,000.
Objectors said the expansion, following the building of a second poultry unit in 2009, would worsen odour problems.
The plan attracted one letter of support from the National Farmers Union which said it was meeting a growing demand.
