A WINCHESTER playgroup is officially outstanding after 30 years of service.

Stanmore St Luke’s Playgroup secured Ofsted’s top grade in an inspection earlier this year and leader Sue Rose said she was delighted.

She said: “This is the first time we have ever been outstanding. We have been good a few times, but I have been in charge for 30 years and this is the culmination of that work.

“We have to make sure we continue to be outstanding now, though, as that is the real challenge.”

Sue, of Stanmore Lane, added the success was down to her strong team of four staff and eight volunteers.

She said: “Teamwork has got us here. We have a really tight-knit team and I have trained all the people who work for me and I trained myself to train others. We like to involve everyone here from the parents to the grandparents so we are a real community playgroup.”

The playgroup currently has around 20 children and is based in St Luke’s Church Centre in Mildmay Street, Stanmore.
