Winchester Theatre Royal reveals new look

WINCHESTER Theatre Royal has revealed its new look for the autumn season.
The theatre has revamped its box office and bar area to improve customer flow through the building and make it more attractive to passers by.
The box office has been moved to the Discovery Centre end of the building while the bar has been extended through the old box office area.
Kate Raines, theatre communications manager, said: “It makes more sense because we have a connection with the Discovery Centre and now it feels like the buildings are connected.
“At the other end of the building you can now see the cafe from the street and the big horseshoe shaped bar. It means we are not getting bottlenecks and it allows a better flow while being more visible.”
Construction began in August and took three weeks to complete, with most of the work handled in-house by the theatre’s technical team who used their experience from set building.
Kate said the project was low-budget and only cost hundreds of pounds.
She added: “We had the skills and materials already so it was very straightforward. We only used one outside contractor to sort out the electrical wiring.
“Our first show of the new season took place last Saturday (Sept 15) and feedback has been great so far. People have agreed that we needed to do it and it looks much better.”
