South Wonston residents warned after spate of burglaries
POLICE are advising residents in a Hampshire village to remain vigilant following a spate of burglaries.
Three homes in South Wonston , near Winchester , have been burgled in the past few weeks while the occupants were away.
The first was at a home in Wrights Way, between July 24 and September 9 where watches, iPods, PlayStation 3 games and Samsung and Acer laptops were stolen.
A home in Orchards Close, was burgled between September 1 and September 10 after the back door was forced open. An antique item was the only thing taken.
The final burglary was at a home in Oaklands, between September 6 and September 9 where the offenders forced open the front door but nothing was stolen.
PC Emma Purser, said: “If you are going to be away from your property, even if it’s just for a couple of days, try to make your home look occupied - get a trusted friend or neighbour to collect your post and draw your curtains and use timer switches to turn the lights on in the evening. Lock tools, ladders, etc, away so that they cannot be used to gain entry to your home.
“These simple measures make your house look lived in and could help you keep your property safe while you are away.”
Anyone with information on the burglaries should contact PC Purser at Winchester Police Station on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
