Greening campaign aims to walk the walk

EFFORTS to ‘green’ a Winchester suburb have reached full speed.

Greening Fulflood is attempting to get residents to reduce their carbon footprint and so help stave off climate change.

Campaigners have delivered a card to every local household listing five challenges for people to attempt.

The Carbon Challenge Week begins on Monday July 13 and to mark the start, the campaign is hosting a one-mile walk on Sunday July 12.

One of the Greening Fulflood challenges is to walk or cycle instead of using a car for trips less than one mile. The walk starts and ends at Western Primary School at 2.30pm, with drinks and biscuits at halfway.

On Sunday July 19, the campaign is inviting Fulflood residents to a bring-your-own picnic on Oram’s Arbour at 1pm at which the carbon savings will be announced.

This is national “Big Lunch” day, at which people across the country are eating with their neighbour. The Campaign wants to encourage people to eat local and seasonal food. This supports local shops and farms, and reduces food miles and energy wasted in producing and storing food out of season.
