WINCHESTER residents are calling on Network Rail to repair a rusting bridge over the railway.
Robert Sanders said the state of the bridge at the end of Mead Road in St Cross was causing increasing concern.
Cllr Sanders, a city councillor who lives nearby on Whiteshute Lane, said: “Network Rail are doing nothing about it. It is just rusting away and needs sorting out.”
The bridge which is mainly concrete is not in danger of collapse but the residents fear there are other hazards.
Cllr Sanders added: “Someone could badly cut their hand on the rusty section.”
The issue was raised by him at the recent town forum but city council officers said the bridge was the responsibility of Network Rail.
A Network Rail spokesperson said: “We are aware that the footbridge at St Cross is in need of some maintenance work and we have plans to renew sections of the bridge soon as part of our summer improvement programme.
“In the mean time, we will take steps to temporarily fix the areas most in need of repair until the planned renewal can be carried out,” he added.
