A LEADING veterinary charity has been recognised for its commitment to volunteers.
The People's Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA) organisation received an Investors in Volunteers' award at its Winchester office, in Hyde Street, on Wednesday (December 5) from Janet Lewis Jones, lead assessor at Volunteering England.
Janet Compton, who accepted a plaque on behalf of PDSA, said: "I'm delighted that PDSA has become the first national organisation to achieve the Investing in Volunteers' quality standard.
"It recognises what PDSA has always believed, that volunteers are vital to the organisation, and therefore good volunteer management is essential."
A spokeswoman for the PDSA said it has 4,800 volunteers who donate their valuable time and skills to the organisation, saving it £8.5m a year.
