THEY only have little legs but these daschunds helped raise a big amount for charity.

More than 30 of the sausage dogs gathered at Down Farm in Headbourne Worthy on Sunday for the inaugural Daschund Dawdle raising £220 for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

The pack set off from the farmyard on one of two routes – a mile-long circuit for those with very little legs, and a slightly longer route for the more energetic.

Taking part were miniature wirehaired, miniature smoothaired, standard smoothaired and standard wirehaired daschunds from as far afield as Bournemouth and London. The gathering was very good natured and well-behaved, with barely a bark out of place.

Brit-Marie Wallock, who attended with her miniature poodle, said: “I can’t believe how much we’ve raised today – everyone has been so generous. It’s the first time I’ve been to an event like this and it was amazing.”

Katie Browne, organiser, said: “It has been so much fun – to see so many daschunds in one place was hilarious.”

We will definitely be repeating the event in the near future and hope that even more people will bring their daxies to make new friends!”

She added that she is considering having a fancy dress theme for both owners and dogs at the next event.
