A FAMOUS art forger has put his skills to use by raising hundreds of pounds for disability sports at a fundraising evening.

Hosted by law firm Stowe Family Law, which has offices in Winchester, at the Canvas Gallery, the networking evening with John Myatt raised more than £300 for the Winchester’s Goalball team, which is made up of visually impaired players.

Senior solicitor Jennifer Willamson said: “This was an amazing event, made possible by the hard work of the Stowe team, Canvas Gallery and John Myatt.

“It was a pleasure to raise Stowe’s profile in Winchester by bringing together local connections and many of the gallery’s clients, as well as raising over £300 for the local Winchester Goalball team.”

Mr Myatt took part in what was known as the biggest art fraud of the 20th century that led to his arrest in 1995. He was sentenced to 12 months in prison he served just four due to his co-operation during the investigation and his good behaviour.

Following his release, Mr Myatt put used his skills to paint genuine fakes. He has sold his work all over the world and has painted portraits for celebrities like Frank Skinner and Catherine Tate.
