SOME archaeologists are not publishing work undertaken as part of planning permission for scheme.

City councillors heard that fieldwork before development should be written up and usually put into the public domain.

Cllr Therese Evans fold full Council that she knew of two schemes near Winchester built in 2012 where the results have still not been published.

Cllr Frank Pearson said he knew of six schemes where reports were unavailable.

"I have been enquiring for the last two years and been getting the soft shoe shuffle."

Cllr Caroline Brook, portfolio holder for the built environment, said one of the developers had gone bust but that she was drawn up an action plan with the other archaeologist.

Cllr Brook said she knew of an isolated scheme nearly ten years ago where it was not possible to publish the findings.

But she added the data still exists and there had been no loss of information.

She said she would look into Cllr Pearson's information about six sites.

The sites involved were not identified.
