POLICE are appealing for witnesses following the attempted robbery of a mobile phone in Winchester.

Between 9.55pm and 10.06pm on Wednesday September 14, a man approached a group of young teenagers on Dean Lane and demanded a mobile phone.

However, he was unsuccessful and the teenagers left the area unharmed. No items were stolen.

The man has been described as white, aged in his mid 30s and wearing pale clothing.

It was also noted that he may have been drunk at the time.

DC Tracy West said: “This offence happened at around 10pm and appears to be an isolated incident.

“We advise members of the public not to keep their mobile phones out in the open, but to keep them close to hand.

“They are a sought after piece of property, and this appears to have been an opportunist incident.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC West on 101 quoting 44160347817, or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
